Most of us would like to believe that our decisions are guided by truth. But what happens when telling the truth, doing what is right, or following God could cost us someone’s approval? When the religious leaders confronted Jesus in the temple, He asked them a question that exposed what was really controlling them. They knew how they wanted to answer, but they were afraid of how the crowd might respond. Their need for approval left them trapped, unable to admit the truth standing right in front of them. Whose voice carries the most weight in your life? The voice of a parent, a friend, the culture around you, or perhaps your own? The voices we follow do more than influence a few decisions. Over time, they shape the lives we live. So how do we escape the trap of approval and become anchored in the voice of God?
